After being on the program for one month I noticed a significant improvement in my mood leading up to menstruation and was very happy to have also lost the cravings for sugar, bloating and sore breasts that I had previously experienced at this time of my cycle. My PMS symptoms were gone! I also lost weight and had more energy.
I cannot recommend Jess highly enough, a knowledgeable and compassionate naturopath who is dedicated to women’s’ health.
This book is concise yet empowers the reader with a good knowledge base to make healthy choices, and lets face it – a healthy, well balanced mum equals a happy healthy family!
If you are a busy mum with an interest in health and wanting to live life to the fullest, then this book is for you – it is informative, interesting and motivating.
Every mum is in need of more nourishment, balance and rejuvenation and this book is the one stop shop! I love how it contains all the information I needed to understand why I was feeling like I was and all the information to turn it around. I have read it twice and would recommend it for every mum. It’s so easy as a busy mum to forget to apply these three principles to ourselves, but Jess has mapped it out, in this super easy to read and digest format, love it!
Jess provides contemporary evidence-based advice with a gorgeous smile plus a sprinkle of her endearing personality. I trust her because she understands what it takes to be a mum, a wife, and a career driven female. She is best placed to advise me of new strategies to keep me motivated which keeps me on course of my healthy lifestyle which I previously thought only “other people” could have. There is no price for that!
I craved sugary foods & ate food for energy (especially to stay awake when feeding a bubba during the middle of the night!) just to give me the next fix to keep me going. I was always so tired that ‘fast & easy to prepare’ foods were the only way I could keep up with feeding the rest of my family. So that’s what I ate too – just to survive!
For the first time in my life I was experiencing symptoms of anxiety & depression. I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster ride – up, down, up, down – & on & on it went.
Before my period was due each month I was experiencing extreme headaches & moodiness. My monthly cycle had become irregular. My periods were much heavier, presenting clotting, and they were painful & longer lasting. What had this last pregnancy done to me!? This was so not normal for me!
Life was chasing me, keeping me moving at a pace that I just couldn’t keep up with because my energy levels were so low. Even after a huge nights sleep I NEVER woke up feeling better.
I knew I had to ‘change’ something (many things) to improve my lifestyle.
I decided to go & see my GP requesting that he do a full blood work to check everything was ‘ok’. To my shock (& utter disbelief) all tests came back as ‘within normal range’. His only suggestion being to ADD exercise in to my lifestyle (you’ve got to be joking!!) &, if the feelings of depression persist, then antidepressant medication would be the solution (I knew I didn’t have clinical depression & I didn’t believe I had postnatal depression. I loved my baby & had bonded beautifully with her. I was malnourished & exhausted! And my hormones were completely out of balance!)
From Day 1 everything Jessica said made sense. I wasn’t putting me first, I was too busy looking after the needs of others – family, friends, etc – that I was actually guilty of neglecting myself and what my body needs to survive – yet alone ‘thrive’.
From the same blood test results my doctor received Jessica could clearly identify the nutrients my body was lacking in. After 4 days of being on the supplements my thinking became clear & the ‘brain fog’ (only way I can describe it) lifted. For the first time since the birth of my little girl I felt clear & calm. So amazing! My terrible period symptoms have all eased. I am regular again & pain free
I now view food in a whole new way. If it’s a ‘live’ food (unprocessed) then it has vital nutrients that will build me up & give me energy. I see every bite as a deposit of ‘goodness’ into me. I deserve it.
Since following the Energetic Mama eating plan (adding one new lifestyle change at a time to establish a new habit is what has worked for me) I have lost 17 kg – without dieting – eating as much live healthy food as I like. I have even been able to add exercise into my lifestyle as my energy levels have increased.
I am still on this journey to ‘healing’ & ‘wholeness’. And I will be for the rest of my life… Day by day I am learning to nourish, balance & rejuvenate myself & my world. I am worth it!!
Within 2 weeks of starting the program I started to feel really good and have more energy. No more lunch time naps! The first things I noticed was my eyes looked really clear and my skin was glowing and whilst many would refer to me already as “skinny” or “slim” I felt like I always had a bloated stomach – yep that disappeared too! And if I needed to get up for an early start I felt quite energized and didn’t need to use stimulants such as coffee.
With everything I learned about food and the inspiration I got, I started putting more time in to making nutritious & delicious food and this took priority over sweating it out at the gym 6 days a week. I never liked cooking that much and just did it because I had to and stuck to the basics. Now I love cooking and baking and try to create at least one new meal every week.
A year later and I still stick to the basics of eating real, whole foods. I am also very aware of the impact my stress levels have on my health so whilst I haven’t mastered the art of meditation just yet, taking some time out to do yoga or a walk down the beach are priorities for me too and just learning to let go of the things I can’t change in my life and make the most of the things that I can.
My attitude towards food has completely changed. I don’t count calories, I think of Food in the sense of “will this make me feel good and give me the energy I need to get through my day, or will this make me feel crap and probably tired later?” There isn’t any particular food or food group I can’t have but like everyone else I’m still human. I do enjoy a wine or two & have a bit of a sweet tooth but every day I just try to nourish my body with the things that make me feel good and don’t get to hung up on myself for the occasional treat or wine.
I can’t thank Jess enough for her understanding, support and education that has allowed me to make changes that are life long and the thought of turning 30 in a few weeks is not fazing me at all because I am in the best health and shape I have been in my life.
